Ideal Boiler Fault Codes Explained

Every common Ideal lockout code, what it actually means, and whether it is a simple pressure top-up or a safety fault needing a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Ideal diagnostic code matrix

F1

Low water pressure

Repressurise to 1.0–1.5 bar; investigate leaks if it recurs.

F2

Flame loss

Gas supply, electrode or condensate blockage. Common in cold weather on Logic models.

L2

Ignition lockout

Five failed ignition attempts. Requires engineer diagnosis of gas valve and electrodes.

F3

Fan fault

Fan speed feedback outside range — fan or PCB replacement.

F4

Flow thermistor fault

Sensor open or short circuit; replace thermistor.

Ideal fault codes — FAQs

What does F1 mean on a Ideal boiler?

F1 indicates low water pressure. It should be diagnosed by a Gas Safe registered engineer if it returns after a single reset.

Can I clear a Ideal fault code myself?

Low pressure codes can usually be cleared by repressurising the system. Ignition, fan, flame and overheat codes need an engineer.
